# Command line — PsychArch Reader

> Install the PsychArch Reader command line, sign in, send files, the clipboard or piped output, and choose where credentials are stored.

Send a file, the clipboard, or piped output from a terminal to your private Reader library.

## Install

```
curl -fsSL https://psycharch.com/reader/install.sh | sh
psycharch-reader version
```

The macOS and Linux installer puts `psycharch-reader` in `~/.local/bin`; add that directory to your PATH. On Windows, download the ZIP from the [Download](https://psycharch.com/reader/download/#cli) page and put `psycharch-reader.exe` in a directory on PATH.

## Sign in

```
psycharch-reader doctor
psycharch-reader login --open
```

For a remote terminal, use `psycharch-reader login --device`.

## Send

```
psycharch-reader send --file note.md
psycharch-reader send --clipboard
cat note.md | psycharch-reader send
```

Linux clipboard uploads need xclip or xsel; files and stdin do not.

## Credential storage

The default credential store is macOS Keychain, Windows Credential Manager, or Linux Secret Service. Linux Secret Service requires D-Bus and an unlocked collection, including for device login.

On a minimal server such as Alpine, use `psycharch-reader doctor --credential-store file` and `psycharch-reader login --device --credential-store file`. File storage keeps tokens unencrypted in account-private files. `systemd-creds` is an optional encrypted backend when its preflight succeeds; it is not required.

## Automatic replies

To send every reply automatically, set up [Codex](https://psycharch.com/reader/codex/) or [Claude Code](https://psycharch.com/reader/claude-code/). Both guides cover desktop and headless sign-in.
